Gary Johnson Will Debate October 23 in Chicago Though Obama and Romney Declined
The Free and Equal Elections Foundation announced that four U.S. 2012 presidential candidates have confirmed their participation in the upcoming presidential debate at the University Club of Chicago on October 23.
Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson, Green Party candidate Jill Stein, Constitution Party candidate Virgil Goode, and Justice Party candidate Rocky Anderson are the ones who have confirmed their participation so far, even as the FEEF invited the top six presidential candidates of 2012, including Democratic incumbent President Barack Obama and his Republican challenger former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, the Republican presidential nominee.
“The four candidates participating represent a nice balance of right and left leaning candidates,” said Christina Tobin, chair of the FEEF. “This debate will cover the real issues facing our country such as foreign policy, the economy, and civil rights, rather than topics that further divide us,” she added.
The debate is not part of the three other presidential debates organized by the Commission on Presidential Debates in which only President Obama and Governor Romney will face each other in the hopes of becoming the next president of the United States. Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson, forbidden from participating in these because of the CPD rule that requires a candidate should poll around the 15% to gain access to the forums, filed an anti-trust claim again the CPD but is unlikely to be allowed to the CPD debates, the first of which is on October 3 from Colorado.
The FEEF 2012 presidential debate is sponsored by a group of grassroots organizations and media who say they are uniting "to solve our nations problems." They include The Josh Tolley ShowBallot Access News, Muslims for Liberty, National Constitution Party, The Justice Party, Blue Republicans, Restore the Republic, Re-Tea Party, Free the Vote NC, We the People, Grassroots for Liberty, and New Progressive Alliance.
The debate will be broadcast online at www.freeandequal.org
